Pod Irrigation Installation

Installing an H2grO distribution system is simple and is easily designed, installed and modified by the homeowner or a professional irrigation installer. You should ensure that greywater runoff from your property does not enter neighbouring properties, water courses and dams.  You will need to check local council regulations that stipulate minimum set back distances.

Once the area has been selected, determine the number of H2grO pods required.  Allow one pod for each large shrub; for annuals allow one pod for each square metre of the garden to be irrigated.  The ideal number of pods per zone is between 15 and 25.

Trial and error may be required to achieve even watering. If the number of pods in each zone is different, you may need to keep the H2grO diverted to the zones with more pods, more often than the zones with fewer pods. If the garden is on a slope, then try to run the pipe along the slope, rather than up and down the slope. If this is not possible then space the pods further apart at the bottom of the slope and closer together at the top of the slope. Don’t be too concerned because it is easy to move or replace pods at any time.

If more than 25 pods are connected to any one zone, the greywater distribution will not be uniform across all pods. Do not install fewer than 15 pods to any zone as greywater may enter the H2grO at a rate faster than the pump can distribute it. Over time this may cause your pump to fail.


Gardens that require more than one zone should incorporate a simple distribution manifold, fitted with in-line valves, to allow individual zones to be selected for irrigation.

Run 25mm purple H2grO irrigation pipe from the H2grO unit or manifold, to the most distant point in your pod zones and plug the far ends with 25mm barbed in-line valves, secured with ratchet clips. The valves allow the pipelines to be opened for flushing during annual maintenance. 25mm purple H2grO irrigation pipe should be buried under the soil or concealed beneath a thick layer of garden mulch.


subsurface_irrigation_4.gifUsing a hole punch, make a hole in the 25mm purple H2grO irrigation pipe and connect the pod’s 6mm flexible tube using the joiner supplied.  The 6mm tube may be shortened if desired.


subsurface_irrigation_5.gifIn the desired position, bury an H2grO pod upright with its 6mm flexible tube attached and cover with soil. Provided the top of the pod is covered with soil, its height will ensure the greywater is dispersed at least 100mm below ground level.


Repeat this process until all your pods have been installed.

 

 

Important

  • Greywater is unsuitable for distribution through conventional low flow drip emitters. Use H2grO pods for optimum performance.
  • Never allow the H2grO pump to operate against closed valves or blocked pipes as this will cause permanent damage to the pump.
